RS-1-2008 PROCLAMATION RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 3:30 P.M., Friday, March 7, 2008, the following areas are declared research sanctuaries and ARE CLOSED to all fishing equipment: I. AREA DESCRIPTION CARTERET COUNTY Bogue Sound - An area consisting of approximately 0.44 acres in Hoop Pole Creek off Bogue Sound as shown on the attached map (Hoop Pole Cr. RS). The area is delineated by four posts with signs. The locations of the posts are as follows: Bogue Sound - An area consisting of approximately 0.29 acres in Bogue Sound around the Carteret Community College dock as shown on the attached map (Cart. Comm. Coll. RS). The area is delineated by four posts with signs. The locations of the posts are as follows: 1. 34° 43.301’ N 76° 45.570’ W Newport River - An area consisting of approximately 0.33 acres in Newport River near Penn Point as shown on the attached map (CCC Newport RS). The area is delineated by four posts with signs. The locations of the posts are as follows: 1. 34° 45.735’ N 76° 43.556’ W II. GENERAL INFORMATION: A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 03H .0103 and 03I .0109. B. It is unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03H .0103. C. The sanctuaries will be used by the Carteret Community College to develop and demonstrate shellfish culture methods. D. N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03I .0109, specifies that these Research Sanctuaries are in effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year.
